“April Fool’s Day” (1986) – Hey, it’s Spring Break! It’s time to paaaarty! Well, 9 college pals decide to skip the Florida beaches. Instead, they take a ferry to celebrate the weekend on an island mansion, courtesy of Muffy (Deborah Foreman), one of the kid’s cousins.
Unfortunately, the co-ed hijinks is interrupted, by a series of murders!
Director Fred Walton’s (“When a Stranger Calls” (1979)) movie plays out like a “Friday the 13th” picture, except the setting is a gorgeous home, and a hockey mask doesn’t make an appearance. Still, the body count grows high, and speaking of holidays, many of the 10 students deliver April Fool’s Day pranks on each other…but, homicide is no joke!
By today’s standards, “April Fool’s Day” is a tame 86-minute horror holiday, but it’s a fun look back at 80s slasher days and its fashion. More importantly, it’s a chance to see one of the 80s “it girls”, Deborah Foreman in bloody good performance.
