My First Reaction…”Secret Invasion, S1E1-E2″ = My Dinner with Secret Invasion
Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir star in the brand-new MCU television show about The Skrulls, a shape-shifting alien race, living on Earth. Wow, what a cast!
Which makes my first-reaction report so surprising. This might be the most sluggish espionage event since “My Dinner With Andre” (1981). Oh, wait, the 1981 movie was about two friends conversing over dinner for almost two hours, and that’s what we get here. If you want to observe countless tired conversations in dimly lit kitchens and makeshift office space for nearly the entire first two 50-minute episodes, then this is program is for you.
And, for the record, I hate the way the writers and creators have portrayed Nick Fury. It’s nauseating. Well, perhaps, he’ll have the biggest comeback of all time. We’ll see. I’ll watch Episodes 3 – 6, and I’ll make sure to fire up a pot of coffee for each one…but I’ll probably skip dinner.
The series premieres on Disney+ on June 21.
